How To Save Money on Prescriptions
Prescriptions are a costly, yet necessary, fact of life. Many families and individuals truly struggle with just the cost of living. Add to that the shocking expense of medicine, and things can begin to seem hopeless very quickly.
I (Jamie), am still at a point in my life where my husband and I can't afford health insurance. This means I'm always on the lookout for ways to save in this area for us, and for others like us. Here are some ideas that I hope will help you too:
Prescription Transfer/New Prescription Coupons:
Rite-Aid offers a $25 Rite-Aid Gift Card when you transfer a prescription. In fact, you can get up to $50 for transferring *2* prescriptions! Print those Coupons HERE.
Because most pharmacies will accept other pharmacy coupons, you can also use this on transferred (and sometimes just "new") prescriptions at CVS or Walgreens! Use those gift cards on groceries, diapers, or just to purchase all your weekly deals.
*I was able to get my husband's ear infection prescriptions totally free after using Rite-Aid coupons at CVS this week!
Free Prescriptions for Low-Income Families:
Rx Assist
Partnership for Prescription Assistance
Novo Nordisk US- Patient Assistance
NeedyMeds.com
Another way to get assistance is to go straight to the drug manufacturer's website to find out about any programs. Here's the thread on HotCouponWorld if you'd like to find out more!
Publix Pharmacy - Free Meds:
Whether you have insurance or not, Publix pharmacy will give you up to a 14-day supply of any of the following oral antibiotics, just bring your prescription in!
- Amoxicillin
- Cephalexin (capsules and suspension only)
- Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (SMZ-TMP)
- Ciprofloxacin (excluding Ciprofloxacin XR)
- Penicillin VK
- Ampicillin
- Erythromycin Stearate and Ethylsuccinate
- Doxycycline Hyclate (capsules)
Get your prescriptions for generic immediate-release metformin (500 mg, 850 mg and 1000 mg) FREE, up to a 30-day supply (90 tablets). There's no limit to the number of refills of free medication you can receive.
Ask For Samples!
This is an easy way to get free medicine at your doctor's office and save money on co-pays at the pharmacy. Even if your chances of getting free medicine seem slim, it never hurts to ask!

Don't Miss This!
Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss the following in yesterday's newspaper:
- Coupon in Parade insert (could vary by region, mine was a Zantac Q)
- Prescription Q (new or transfered) for KMart...can be used at CVS
- Target - in the center of the ad was a deal about recycling plastic bags. If you send in 5 Target plastic bags, they'll email you a $1 off Q for a Target reuseable bag. The great thing is the mail-in envelope is a part of the ad and the postage is pre-paid!
- There have also been reports of prescription Rite-Aid Qs and possibly a $5 off $25 Q. Mine didn't have it, but hope yours did!

Prescription Transfer Coupons = CVS FREE MONEY!
If you have a prescription to fill or transfer, here are some links to coupons that will get you gift cards for your transfer (or new prescription). Because CVS takes competitor pharmacy coupons, they will match these offers and you can use that giftcard to go toward this week's deals!
P.S. It looks like the CVS Pepsico deal this week that was supposed to be Limit 1 - is actually a Limit of 5!! If you want to do it again before Sunday, go for it!
