One Call... That's All!

We had a reader write in today to tell us about a little incident with her diaper purchase, and what came of it. Take a look what Jennifer had to say:
My son is wearing the pullups at night, and he is anal about them having the "cars" on them.  I bought a new pack that had the cars on the package, but upon opening them, to my horror, had buzz lightyear and woody on them.  My son would not touch them until I showed him that they were in fact riding on a car so they were still "carpants."  I called the 800 number on the package to ask if they were changing the designs, and from that one call  (I didn't even complain about anything, just asked) they sent me several $4.00 off coupons for Pull-Ups! Definitely worth the 2 minutes I spent on the phone with them.  Thought other moms might be interested.
Now, I'm not telling you this to prod you to make up any old excuse to call and complain to a company just so you can score some high-value coupons.  I'm telling you this to illustrate how effective a method CONTACTING THE COMPANY can be at scoring coupons!
In fact, just calling a company to say "I LIKE your product - it's awesome!  Can you send me any coupons for it?" will often get you a surprise in your mailbox.  Here's how to go about it:

See? Easy as pie! Writing/emailing companies is also a great way to get coupons sent to you -for a long list of companies worth contacting, and their responses, check out the "5 A Day Campaign": a series of posts HERE on CouponingtoDisney!

Debbie McCuiston, self-proclaimed "Queen of Clutter-Free", does a segment for us each Sunday on simplifying our lives, getting rid of "clutter", and focusing on what's important.  We're really excited about this new segment - and hope you are too!  Take it away Debbie....

A special thank you to the ladies that have sent in the pics and ideas on how they are working to become clutter-free. It is very encouraging to me and others that are following our progress. Keep up the good work and keep sending in your pics. You and your family are worth it!

In the past 2 weeks we have discussed reasons why we have accumulated clutter. One being priorities and the other being our control issues. This week I would like to address the problem of being overwhelmed or my favorite title- "I don't know where to start so I will just set here and stare at it."

Being overwhelmed is a common problem in all areas of our lives. From the small areas of "where do we put the 20 bottles of ketchup we bought with our coupons for about 35 cents each?"...to "where did we leave the kids?" - (I thought they were with you!)  Nothing says overwhelmed like leaving your kids and not remembering where you saw them last.
Most of us become overwhelmed because we try to do it ALL!! Let it go, you can't. Don't wait until you have become so sick you can't go on. There have been several studies that have proved if we do not take care of ourselves we will GET SICK!! Many cancers and disorders can be attributed to the fact that we are too busy, doing too much, in too little time. It's time to stop and get our lives in order so we can be strong healthy women.
If you are like me or many of the ladies I know, we all take on way too many things to do. How many of you say yes to anything you are asked to do because "If we don't do it who will"? How many of us are leaders in our church, community and in our homes? We take on any and every task at hand. Maybe you think no one can do it like you can. This may be true but in the test of time it's ok. I know I am as guilty as the next mom  for trying to do it all to prove to our children we love them and prove to the other parents we are the Best!! I hate to tell you -- the kids rarely remember all you do. But they will remember how tired and grumpy you were.

In the last few years I have taken a step back and tried to decide what was REALLY important to me and to figure out why God put me on this earth. I truly believe there are seasons in our life, so what we are to do when we are young or have small kids is going to be different when we get older and have more free time.  I am the women's ministry director at our church and have done this for 4 1/2 yr. My rule to live by now is that if the job has something to do with the "church ladies" I am there. Anything else I just can't do. At first people will be taken aback but I promise they get used to it. I explain that I want to do a good job at what God called me to do so I am trying not to get too much on my plate. I know God will be pleased when I seek to do His will and do it for His glory and not my own.

During this "slow" time of the year when the cold weather keeps you indoors, take a minute and look at how you spend your time. Maybe look at it through the idea -what difference will it make in the light of eternity? Are you filling your time with things to get the praise of others or will you do things so that when we stand before our heavenly Father will we hear- "well done"?  Maybe it's time to clean out the clutter that fills our schedule and focus on what is really important.  While cleaning out that closet or drawer this week think thru your goals and what will last in your life. Take time to make a difference in the lives of others and focus on why you are here. Do not waste the life God has given you. May God bless you and your family as you seek to de-clutter the things that weigh you down. Keep pressing on to your High calling to be a reflection of Jesus in all you do.
Please send any questions or suggestions to queenofclutterfree@yahoo.com

Sunday Newspaper Inserts for 1/31

This weekend we'll be getting a SmartSource & a RedPlum insert.
Remember to always get the largest paper available to you, so that your inserts will be fatter and have more high-value coupons!  Also, if you have relatives or friends who live in big cities, ask them to send you theirs as well!

End of the month....last chance to print coupons!

The end of the month is here, and that means some of the printable coupons on coupons.com, redplum, and smartsource will be disappearing in a day or two.  If you think you'll use any of them, go ahead and print before they're gone!  Just click on the images below to go straight to those sites for printing

You do have a voice!!

Who is Nielsen Digital Voice?

Nielsen Digital Voice provides independent measurement analysis of online audiences, advertising, video, blogs, consumer-generated media, word of mouth, e-commerce and consumer behavior.  Nielsen Media Research is the world's leading provider of television, radio and print audience measurement and advertising information services.

As you'll see as you continue to read this post I get a little fired up when it comes to what is being targeted to my kids in today's media.  So when someone like Neilson wants my opinion or to analyze my online habits and see what websites I visit most often I more than welcome it.  If there are to be any changes made in the media, there has to be a demand for that change, and evidence of a guaranteed audience.

I am shocked by some of the junk on the internet and TV.  It's everywhere you can't go to facebook or your email account without a scantily clad female in a banner ad down the whole left side of the screen.   Unfortunaly what was unacceptable 20 years ago is the norm now.  Where has our "shock factor" gone?

I told you I get a little fired up. (Kasey)  If you want to apply and have your voice heard in the Nielsen Digital Voice Panel click HERE.  If you missed out on the post about the Home Scan Consumer Panel click here to read how to influence manufacturers and retailors on what products to make or improve on.  Plus you earn gift cards.  Most of all I know I have taken an active step toward change.

Restaurants.com ~ An impressive discount for any couponer!!

I (Kasey) am all into the new tutorials we have been doing to try and walk you through the process of all the money saving offers we find.  I see ads for Restaurants.com everywhere but by the time I got around to checking it out all of the good restaurants were out of stock.  We got an email this morning so I thought I would check it out.  They have added several new restaurants in the Chattanooga area and all of the really good ones are still in stock.  Yippie!!

Since I am snowed I could get a little crazy finding good deals.  Once I start looking, sometimes its hard to quit.  I could be one click away from the best deal ever.  So keep your eyes peeled to see what I sniff out.

Remember the price is before the 80% discount.  Make sure to read the qualifications for each restuarant.

Again, before 80% coupon code!

Typed in coupon code BONUS and my $75 gift certificate is now $6.00!?!  My kids would love to watch the food being cooked in front of them.  I probably wouldn't eat it myself, because I am a country girl who likes Cracker Barrel, but the entertainment is fun.

I wanted to play around with this and see how many gift cards I could buy for under $20.

1. $75 to KanPai of Tokyo
2. $25 to the Murder Mystery Cafe
3. $25 to The Station House
4. $25 to The Melting Pot
ALL FOR $12.00  That is crazy.

This could make for some serious hero gifts to teachers, coaches, anniversaries,
wedding presents, or to just treat yourself.  Don't forget to read the details of each restaurant.

Click HERE to check it out for yourself!!
For all our Middle GA folks and others not in our area type in your zip code to see a list of hot deals for your area.  Since we aren't familiar with other places, we don't know what restaurants are good or bad.

If you decide to jump on this deal leave a comment and let us know what you got and what your total was at checkout.  I see a girls night in my future!!

Keep in mind these pics were taken from my cell phone while the car was moving.

Kelly and I just made it home from downtown Chattanooga after over 3 1/2 hours.  Whew, my heart is still beating fast.  I have attached some pictures of our journey home. Kelly bought scared me to death.  I was so thankful to get my feet on the ground even if it was slippery.

$5.39 for ReadyMade Magazine!

Today only at Best Deal Magazines, you can get a subscription to ReadyMade Magazine for only $5.39!!

Shameless Commercial from Jamie:
If you don't know anything about this magazine, it is my personal favorite magazine EVER.  It's like Martha Stewart for the hipster - I want to do every single project in there!  The fun and inspired DIY projects are rated from "CHIMP" to "Handyperson Complete With Toolbelt" to give you an idea of difficulty (I'm on the chimp end of the spectrum).  I love reading the McGuyver Challenge- where they take everyday throwaway objects (i.e. old t.v. remotes) and challenge readers to come up with a project for them (i.e. very weird dresser drawer handles). I got a subscription last year for Christmas, and didn't renew this year because I was too cheap.  But now I will!!!

If you are a hip, creative DIYer (or want to be), you'll love this magazine - if you know someone else who is, they'll love it as a gift!
NOTE: Each issue (6 a year) is so popular and memorable that people routinely sell them on Ebay for at least $1.99 per issue - I'm talking issues from 4 years ago are still selling for a few bucks each!  Just something to think about, if you get the subscription and finish it, you can always make triple your money back in the end!

Old Navy: 30% Off from 1/29-1/30!

If you are going to be out today or tomorrow, you might want to stop in at Old Navy - they're having a 30% Off THE ENTIRE STORE sale!  That means all that reeeallly, reeeally marked down clearance will be an EXTRA 30% off!

If only Old Navy weren't 30 minutes away from me....

100 Mommy Contact Cards: $1.99!

  • Give to coaches, teachers, other parents & babysitters
  • Put contact, emergency, allergy info. & more
  • Add a photo for a personal touch

These are so cute, and would be convenient for almost anything.

As mommies, we always put ourselves last- well this is a super sassy cheap treat that could really come in handy.  Wouldn't it be nice to have these to hand out when you meet another mom at the PlayPlace, school, the park, or the mall? How many times has someone asked you for your phone number or email address and you have nothing to write on?  Let's be honest, even if we did the challenge of holding a wiggly two year old and writing at the same time is just a little too much.

The possibilities are endless - hate buying birthday cards to put with a gift?  Have some backups printed with your kids name on them and never waste $2 on a Birthday card again!

Ulimited FREE Valentines Cards at Publix!!!

I stopped by Publix tonight without many of my coupons on hand (Again, I am not an organized girl) to pick up some more Johnson & Johnson First Aid Travel Kits before the Green Advantage Flyer ends tomorrow.
In case you're not aware of this, the travel-size kits are 99¢ (find in the travel-size items).
Buy 1 Johnson & Johnson Travel First Aid Kit: 99¢
Use the $2/1 coupon in the flyer
(Earn $1 off each one!)
*You don't even need the flyer really, just ask your cashier to scan theirs at the register - my cashier scanned hers 5x for my 5 kits, so I made $5 towards my other items!  You will probably need other items in your order to soak up the overage - so grab something else you need too.
Need cheap ideas?  Get some Aleve!  You don't need a coupon at all - just the Green Advantage Buy Flyer again.
Buy (2) Aleve Liquid Gels (or other varieties) on sale for $2.99 ea
Use $5/2 GAVF Coupon
(Pay 49¢ ea!)
*Now where was I?*

Oh right, FREE CARDS:  While I was there I wandered down the card aisle and found SEVERAL Publix tearpads for 99¢/1 Hallmark Expressions card.  I read the coupons very carefully: Use on ANY Hallmark Expressions card, INCLUDING the 99¢ ones!  There is NO LIMIT stated on the coupon - so get as many as you'll use! (Exp. 2/14)
The only 99¢ cards I found tonight were the kids Valentines cards - so I got 6 for FREE!  These would be great to give to your kids, nieces, nephews, grandkids, or for your child to give their teacher on Valentines Day!

After all was said and done, I spent $13 and saved $57!  Not bad for being unprepared.....

My quest to clutter free - Laundry Room

What's going on at your house?
Share with us if have taken the challenge to declutter!

Now I(Kasey) will admit, I have a friend that has helped me alot in exchange for groceries  and clothes for her daughter.  It was her idea to put the laundry stuff in baskets, I have to admit I was a little skeptical at first since it does take away storage area, but it sure makes it look clean.  The baskets were on clearance at Target for $2.00 after Christmas.  I would love to put my husbands dress shirts in our closet but he says that they stay wrinkle free longer in the laundry room.

In the picture on the left the barrel shapped thing on the wall is from Ikea, my favorite store!  It was only $1.99 and keeps all my plastic shopping bags in one place.  The second picture is an example of my laundry sorting method.  Instead of hampers in every room, we have the shelves above with laundry baskets.  Each day our dirty clothes get placed in the appropriate basket.  When it gets full, the laundry is already sorted - I just turn around and dump it in the wash.  I will take credit for this system, I have used it for several years not bad for me.

If you missed my first project, overhauling the kids playroom click HERE.  As I said then, this does not come natural to me, I love the way it looks and I feel soooo much better with it clean.  I just get completley overwhelmed, my ADHD kicks in and before you know it I have the entire house torn apart and not one room finished.  So I am taking Debbie's advice and cleaning out something everyday.  Even if it is just a small drawer it does help me to feel like I am accomplishing something a little at a time.  I have been working on our bedroom this week - it might take a couple of weeks before I finish there.  If you have missed a week of our new Simplify Sunday Series click HERE.

Reader Testimonial and Pictures
I was so inspired by your site and how to get stuff organized I finally de-cluttered my bedroom.

I have lived in a small master for a while now and my stuff is now taking over the area. I have no where to put it all so it ends up on the floor and shortly after usually destroyed by our daughter or our dogs...i've lost so many pairs of shoes and bags:(

I did want to share some quick ways my husband helped me organized all my "chic stuff" haha.
He went to walmart and purchased clearance wrapping paper bins for all my shoes to go under the bed they work great and are sturdy.  Now every girl wants a great place to put on her makeup and do her hair but I hate trying to stand in the bathroom and do it and have always wanted a vanity but lets be honest they are expensive or too small for all your stuff. My hubs(who rocks) built the one show for $25 from stuff he found at Walmart using a shelf, a $6 mirror, plastic bins, basket for curling iron and blow dryer and even mounted a surge protector underneath shelf for me to plug it all into and screwed the plastic bins to the top so my 1 year old can no longer reach all my makeup. I LOVE IT!

Finally he cut the hooks off extra plastic hangers lying around and nailed them to the wall for all my handbags and that was FREE.

Now all MY stuff is out of reach from our daughter and the dogs and I'm very happy!
It's not fancy but it's cheap and WORKS!....now if i could just keep my daughter from unfolding all her clothes we would be in business(:

I didn't have before pics but just imagine it all over the floor!

Anyone have any advice on helping her out with her baby girl unfolding laundry?
